Cervical cancer screening
For cervical cancer screening, in the Brussels region, there are no invitations. What should you do?
If you are between 25 and 29 years old inclusive.
Your general practitioner or your gynecologist will perform a cervical smear. The laboratory will check for abnormal cells. If the laboratory result is normal, the smear must be repeated after three years. These examinations are free. You only pay the co-payment for the consultation.
If you are between 30 and 64 years old inclusive.
Your general practitioner or your gynecologist will perform a cervical smear. The laboratory will check for the absence of HPV virus. If the laboratory result is normal, the smear must be repeated after five years. These examinations are free. You only pay the co-payment for the consultation.
If you are over 64 years old.
The risk of cervical cancer is low. Screening is not necessary. However, if you wish to continue your screening, laboratory examinations will be chargeable.
