Cervical cancer screening

For the research on cervical cancer, no invitations are sent out in the Brussels region.

What should you do?

Are you between 25 and 29 years old?
Your general practitioner or gynecologist will take a smear from your cervix. The laboratory checks for any abnormal cells. If the laboratory result is normal, the smear is repeated after three years. These tests are free. You only pay the co-payment for the consultation.

Are you between 30 and 64 years old?
Your general practitioner or gynecologist will take a smear from your cervix. The laboratory will check for any HPV virus present. If the laboratory result is normal, the smear is repeated after five years. These tests are free. You only pay the co-payment for the consultation.

Are you older than 64 years?
The risk of cervical cancer is low. Screening is not necessary. If you still want to proceed with screening, the laboratory tests are not free.
