Why do I need to perform the Colotest?
Colon cancer is a cancer that develops slowly (over several years), often without any signs. The presence of small amounts of blood in the stool can be a sign of cancer in the early stages. Before the age of 50, colon cancer is rare. But from the age of 50, the risk increases and it is worth doing the Colotest every two years.
Can I trust Colotest?
Yes, Colotest is effective and helps in detecting colon cancer in its early stages. But no test is 100% safe. If there is blood in the stool, Colotest detects it 4 out of 5 times. Therefore, the test should be done every two years: an undetected bleeding can be detected two years later.
Some cancers do not bleed. If you have persistent abdominal pain, or if you are losing weight for no reason, talk to your doctor.
Why NOT perform the Colotest?
Colotest is not suitable for you if you have a high risk of colon cancer. Discuss this with your doctor.
Colotest is useless if you had a colonoscopy less than 5 years ago, or if you have regularly had a colonoscopy, or if your last Colotest was less than 2 years ago.
